Kids start playing Teeball (we call it baseball after the kids turn
8) at 5 years old. You can play it everywhere where there is a field. You
just need a few things
A Square field
4 bases (you can use pieces of wood, carpet, pillows or anything flat
where you can stand on.)
A bat (for teeball you also need a Tee)
a ball ( any hard ball, the size of a tennisball)
a baseball mitten
atleast 9 people per team
This
is how a real field looks like. We call it a Diamond. You can see the catcher
(the man sitting on his knees behind the batter) and the batter (the person
that has to hit the ball) in the left corner. On the little hill in the
middle of the field is the Pitcher..the man that throws the ball to the
batter. Then on the other 3 corners of the field are the bases, 1st,
2nd and third. The Homeplate is the 4th base. A player has to hit the ball
and then try to run from 1st base to 2nd, to 3rd and then 4th. Once he
runs to 4th (homeplate) he scores a point. The other team has to try to
catch the ball, or tag the player before he gets his foot on a base to
get the batter out. Sometimes batters hit the ball so hard it goes out
of the fiield into the stands....that is called a homerun. Nobody can stop
the player from running to 4th base then. When your team has 3 outs they
change position. You can be the batting team...or the field team. You can
only score points when you are the hitting team.
Now
for little kids its hard to hit the ball when it is thrown to you. You
get 3 chances to try it though. But with the 4th try we use a TEE. Its
a pole where the ball rests on and you hit it from the tee, like the little
boy is doing.
The batter always has to wear a helmet to protect
his head. You have to wear that helmet till you pass the 4th base. You
leave the bat after you hit a ball and then start running to 1st
base.
This is called a DUG OUT. Its at the back of the field, behind the homeplate.
Its where the players that are in the batting team sit and wait their turn.
This
is what the mitten looks like. Its big and has padding in it, because
the baseball is very hard. And when you have to catch it it would hurt
your hand very bad if you wouldnt protect it with this glove. The ball
fits in perfectly
